Hi,

I have found that my / partition on the server is almost full (95% full). I have allocated 7.9 GB space to / partition and it had enough space before few days (50% was free). I am not sure what is eating all this space. Any idea how it can be filled up ?

Thanks,

Generally / partition doesn't require more space but in your case something is wrong. Check the following things:

[1] Check for backup files. Make sure you have not placed any backup file which causing low disk space issue.
[2] Search for core dump file. In most cases, this is one of the reasons behind this. Check for the files somename.core in your /.

You can also check the disk usage using du -hs command. Go to your / partition and fire the following command:

du -hs *
